The Queensland Police Service has nabbed 1000 drivers who tested positive to illicit drug since drug testing began in December, 2007. Cannabis was the most common drug followed by MDMA and ecstasy. Male drivers were more likely to have drugs in their system than women, with 868 drug-driving men nabbed. Most drug drivers were picked up in cars, 145 were driving heavy vehicles, 37 were on motorcycles and seven were driving boats. Police nabbed 18 drug drivers more than once. Police Minister Neil Roberts said roadside drug testing had become an integral part of combating Queensland's road toll. "Roadside drug testing operations continue to ensure Queensland roads are safe from those drivers that consume illicit drugs and choose to drive," he said. "Take illicit drugs and drive, prepare to be stopped." - --- MAP posted-by: Richard R Smith Jr.
