DRUG RUNNING A PRIME TARGET

THE crackdown on drugs moving through the North Coast will continue in
the lead-up to Nimbin's Mardi Grass Festival in May, police say.

Officers attached to the Drug Dog Unit and Richmond Local Area Command
conducted 710 random breath tests, along with vehicle and person
searches, in Nimbin and surrounding towns on Friday and Saturday as
part of Operation Yagan, targeting illicit drug use and immigration
and traffic offences.

Ten people were charged with possessing illicit drugs, 18 others were
cautioned for possessing small quantities of cannabis and one person
was charged with drug supply.

"Police are targeting roads between Lismore and the Gold Coast after
intelligence was received that there are drug movements between these
two locations," Acting Inspector Jackie Lilley, of Lismore, said.
