The board voted 3-1 in favor of the extension on recommendation of Randall Stewart, township planning and building administrator, who said there still are too many unanswered questions about the law that won voter approval in Michigan in 2008. He also said lawsuits are pending and use of marijuana for any purpose is illegal under federal law. Township trustee Matthew Karr cast the lone opposing vote, advocating a six-month extension so the township could act if issues about the law are clarified sufficiently for the township to take a position. Township Supervisor Kurt Soper, Clerk Karen Miller and Trustee Tim Elkins supported the two-year extension. Township Treasurer Patrick Miller was absent. The two-year extension follows a one-year moratorium approved last year by the board. - --- MAP posted-by: Richard Lake
