Re Why Criminalize Use Of This Drug? (April 14): As a psychiatrist, I
have seen my share of daily marijuana smokers over the years, and I
think your editorial gives marijuana far too clean a bill of health,
especially with regard to the claim that it does not produce an
amotivational syndrome or exacerbate existing psychiatric disorders.

While I have long favoured decriminalization, I hesitated to advocate
outright legalization. However, being imprisoned is far more dangerous
to your health than smoking marijuana, even on a daily basis.
