MOUNTIES BUST FAMILY GROW-OP NEAR FALKLAND

A three-generation marijuana grow-op has been put out of business
following an RCMP raid on two family farms near Falkland, police said
Wednesday.

About 20 cops swooped in on two properties Tuesday morning, after a
month-long police investigation, Cpl. Dan Moskaluk said.

Though one man tried to run as police descended on the two properties
- -one on Highway 97, the other on Keller Road -a barking police dog and
hovering helicopter were enough to make him stop, Moskaluk said.

"The search warrants were conducted without any incidents," he said.
Police seized 2,218 plants and about $10,000 in cash.

Five people were arrested, including a 78-year-old man and his
75-year-old wife.

Their relatives, a 53-year-old man, a 44-yearold woman and a
24-year-old man were also take into a custody, police say.

The three eldest of the accused are charged with possession of a
controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking and production of
a controlled substance. It's not known whether the other people will
be charged.

Falkland is about 45 kilometres northwest of Vernon on Highway 97.
