Self. Self, 38, was booked about noon at the Thurston County Jail on suspicion of first-degree attempted murder, according to Thurston County sheriff's Lt. Greg Elwin. Self allegedly shot an Olympia police officer who was on duty with the Thurston County SWAT team as they served a high-risk warrant at a residence on 70th Avenue off Johnson Point Road shortly after 6 a.m. Self was in a bedroom at the residence when he fired a single shot, Elwin said. Self surrendered and was taken into custody immediately after firing the shot, Elwin said. The 33-year-old Olympia police officer, who has not been identified, was shot in the bicep and is recovering at home, according to Elwin. Elwin said the officer's injury was a flesh wound; the bullet did not strike bone. Elwin confirmed Monday that the 70th Avenue home was equipped with surveillance cameras, but he would not elaborate. The SWAT team was serving a narcotics warrant, but Elwin had not released information on whether any narcotics were seized. Self was suspected of distributing marijuana and ecstasy, Elwin said. Detectives seized a 9 mm semiautomatic Walther P229 suspected of having been used in the shooting, Elwin said. Members of the Thurston County Narcotics Task Force had seized unspecified evidence from the home as of Monday afternoon, Elwin added. Elwin would not describe the evidence because of the task force's ongoing investigation. A woman who was in the house was detained Monday morning. Elwin said Monday afternoon that the 18-year-old woman had been released. - --- MAP posted-by: Richard R Smith Jr.
