Mounties say they received a report of a home invasion in East Chilliwack just after 3 a.m. Monday. Police found two vehicles attempting to flee and used a spike belt to disable one of the cars, a grey 2005 Acura TL four-door sedan. Officers were able to arrest the 25-year-old driver but the passenger fled on foot. Although he tore one of the legs off his black sweat pants, he was able to evade police and their dogs. Mounties say the other vehicle, a black four-door sedan that may have been an Acura Integra, attempted to ram police cruisers before leaving at a high rate of speed. It was not pursued and neither it nor its occupants have been located. The victim of the robbery was unhurt. The marijuana plants were grown in an outbuilding on the property, according to police, who have not yet determined the number of plants being grown by the victim, how many were permitted, nor how many were stolen. But they are using the opportunity to outline their concerns with legal medical marijuana growers. "In police experience, medicinal marihuana grow ops have the same ramifications to public safety as illegal grow ops do," said RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Tammy Hollingsworth. These grow ops have been, and continue to be, targets of attacks, often involving violence." - --- MAP posted-by: Richard R Smith Jr.
