LAWYER'S VIEWS ON ADDICTS, ADDICTION MEET DISAPPROVAL

Re: Drug addicts should be sent to isolated work camps, Opinion, Sept. 14

As someone who has known more than a few addicts personally, I was
insulted to read Mr. Purdy equating someone's descent into addiction
as " the action of an amoral fool."

His view is rude, foolish and most of all, ignorant.

Addicts are a varied lot with varied characteristics.

Believe it or not, it's possible for addicts to be decent,
hard-working folk.

While we all believe that people are responsible for their actions,
his statement that someone "chooses to be an addict" is the rubbish of
a personal-responsibility-absolutist.
