IS WEED INDEED REALLY IN NEED?

Editor, the Times:

In the January 5 Times, 'The need for weed is real, indeed,' John
Robles writes in part: "I can tell you that medical marijuana is not
condoned by the federal government, as the article contends."

This piqued my interest. I checked medicalmarijuana.ca/forpatients/who-is-eligible
and Health Canada.

Who is eligible to use medical marijuana? There are two
categories:

1) Severe pain and/or related symptoms for MS, spinal cord injury or
disease, cancer-related symptoms, HIV/AIDS, arthritis, epilepsy.

Applicants must provide a declaration from a medical practitioner to
support their application.

(2) This category is for applicants who have debilitating symptom(s)of
some other medical conditions.

While an assessment of the applicant's case by a specialist is
required, the treating physician, whether or not a specialist, can sign
the medical declaration

May I be so bold as to suggest that in most cases the paper is
submitting views and observations from others.
