I would like to ask Don Marks (Legalize pot but get over 'harmless'
pipe dream, Jan 11) his opinion on people who need to take opiate
narcotics, or any of the other many mind-altering prescription drugs,
throughout the day at work.

Are they addicts? If they are using these drugs to function better and
be able to go to work, as do many who use marijuana, I do not see a
problem. Even if a person is using marijuana simply for recreational
purposes, that does not mean he or she can't properly function after a
toke, the same way a person can work productively after a drink.

If some people are able to manage their use of any drug, and still
work and contribute to their society, and pay for it out of their own
pocket, why should anyone else care what they are doing?
