VANDU KUDOS AND A KVETCH

To the editor:

It's important to consider the work VANDU does around disease 
prevention and education. Peer-to-peer education is recognized 
worldwide as the most effective method of preventing the spread of 
HIV/AIDS and hepatitis.

One case of HIV/AIDS can cost society more than VANDU's funding for 
the year. In 2011, VANDU was recognized nationally with a Kaiser 
Foundation award for excellence in community programming. Vancouver 
Coastal Health's money is well spent and I'd argue for an increase in 
funding to further the effective work they do.
