A PEACEABLE ASSEMBLY

Gimli letter writer Tom Sherbrook (Placid constabulary, April 24)
seems to need a lesson in civil disobedience. I dare say that if
1,000 people, including underage teens, showed up at the legislature,
drinking to protest liquor laws, the police would have put a stop to
it. And they should, because I can guarantee that violence would have ensued.

I'd like to know how many incidents of violence occurred at the 4/20
protest? None? Now, how many happened at the Gimli Icelandic Festival
last year? Do you think that may have been due to the involvement of
alcohol rather than marijuana?

What we had on April 20 was a peaceable assembly of citizens carrying
out their right to peacefully protest what they believe to be unjust
legislation. Good on them.

And regarding the old booze vs. marijuana debate, I'll leave
Sherbrook with this: God made marijuana. Man made beer. Whom do you trust?
