DEALING WITH DRUGS

It is indeed time for governments to find ways to realistically deal
with the drug problem (Microcosm Of Hope - editorial, April 27). The
so-called war on drugs, waged at an outrageous economic, social and
human cost the world over, will simply not stop the demand.

The drug trade is distorting economic realities, in the process
creating "dirty wealth" in many nations, including Canada. It's time
to consider approaching this matter on a national and international
basis as a health concern, not a criminal issue. Ending the war on
drugs is morally and politically the correct thing to do.
