POT DEBATE OVERDUE

Regardless of whether one supports legalization of medical marijuana,
it's long past due to bring the issue of marijuana itself to the
forefront ("Medical marijuana opponents fight AG on ballot question,"
May 27). "Mary Jane" itself should be legalized and taxed, and it
would eliminate untold wastes of court time in this country along
with bringing in billions in badly needed revenue to all levels of
government. Pro or con, marijuana is no different than alcohol,
cigarettes or any other habit-forming vice. It is clear that the "war
on drugs" has been a total failure, with the cost probably unknown
(trillions anyone?) and has done nothing to stop the flow of drugs
across our borders.
