Yves Lacasse said it's actually a "great thing" for the city. Crime statistics for the spring of 2012 show Kamloops Mounties dealt with an extra 55 drug-related offences between April and June, an increase of 28 per cent compared to the same period in 2011. Lacasse said that's because the RCMP is running more undercover operations and putting a greater focus on drug enforcement. "It's a good thing," he said. "Drugs will always be there, so what the statistic shows is that our officers are out there doing their job proactively, busting these people." Lacasse said cocaine and crack cocaine remain the drugs of choice in Kamloops. Overall, crime in the city fell by just over eight per cent in the spring, mainly due to double-digit drops in property crime, non-criminal code offences and traffic violations. Property crimes were down 10 per cent for the quarter - a decrease of 174 offences - while traffic and provincial statue violations were down 22 per cent each. - --- MAP posted-by: Matt
