El Paso County Sheriff's deputies escorted the girl from Evans in handcuffs after getting the call from Falcon District 49 about 2:30 p.m. She was later released to a parent. The girl apparently got the pot from a relative with a medical marijuana card, Sgt. Joe Roybal of the Sheriff's Office said. According to Roybal, less than an ounce of marijuana was allegedly found on the girl who was "showing it to fellow students." Stephanie Wurtz, a spokeswoman for the school district, said the school discovered the pot shortly after school started at 8:20 a.m. Wurtz would not say whether the girl has been expelled, but said a "no tolerance policy" at the district states that if a student is found with drugs or alcohol, they will be expelled. "We are coordinating with the investigation at the sheriff's office," Wurtz said. "We want to make sure that we have all the right information and determine if what we think we know is the truth." District 49 officials contacted all Evans International parents Tuesday and informed them of the arrest, Wurtz said. - --- MAP posted-by: Matt
