Craig Jenkins PROHIBITION DOES NOT WORK First, allow me to express my sorrow to those families who lost a loved one in the recent rash of school shootings. As sorry as I am for them, I cannot allow President Obama to take away my rights with his ill- advised gun-control measures. The simple truth is that prohibition does not work. It is a fact of human nature and simple economics. Prohibition did notwork in the 1920s and 1930s. Prohibition has not worked with marijuana and the war against drugs. And it will not work with guns in 2013. The attempt to ban guns and control gun rights will be a dismal failure and result in three different scenarios, all of which will fail. It will fill our prisons with a whole new class of "criminals" who aren't really criminals. I would be forced to give up my guns. By refusing, I would become a criminal, when really, I'm not. I am a law- abiding citizen who would suddenly have a criminal record. Gun control would have to be overseen by the federal government andwould create a huge expansion of a new federal agency that terrorizes people. Taxes would have to be used to support another government agency, creating an even larger beauracracy. A gun ban will drive huge profits into the hands of criminal gangs who control the underground market-the same situation that now exists with illegal drugs. Guns are not the problem. If kitchen knives were used to kill people, would we ban all kitchen knives? D. Craig Jenkins, Coral Springs - --- MAP posted-by: Jay Bergstrom
