DEAD MAN FOUND WITH LANGLEY GROW-OP

Mounties called out to a rural south Langley home Tuesday night
discovered both a dead man and a marijuana grow op inside.

The house is on 200th Street at 20th Avenue, in a Fernridge
neighbourhood not far from Campbell Valley Regional Park.

The neat beige rancher is set back from a large, manicured lawn and
surrounded by wood and metal gates, which are adorned with barbed wire
and a Beware of Dog sign.

Langley RCMP were called at about 10 p.m. to check on the home and the
well-being of the resident by someone who knew him and grew concerned
after failing to reach him.

The victim's identity has yet to be confirmed and likely won't be
released until later this week, said the Integrated Homicide
Investigation Team's Cpl. Adam MacIntosh, who gave a briefing
Wednesday morning outside the home.

MacIntosh said the man, who appeared to live alone in the house, had
met with foul play. He would not elaborate on whether the man was the
victim of a robbery, how he died or how long he was believed to have
been dead.

Nor would the officer describe the size of the grow operation in the
house or say whether it was a licensed medical-marijuana operation or
an illegal one.

However, a neighbour down the road, who gave her name as Mandy,
supplied some additional details on the man she knew only as "Troy."

"He was a very nice man. He'd call us if he thought our dogs were on
the loose," she said, standing looking at her neighbour's home, now
behind a swath of yellow police tape draped across the gate.

She said Troy had lived on the property for at least as long as she
had been there - about a year and a half - and that he had a collie
and there was often a pit bull on the property, which includes a barn.

He had also told her that he had cameras on the property, which she
believes he was renting. The property, which is assessed at more than
$965,000, is registered to a Winnipeg resident named Santosh Mahay.
