APD LAUNCH OPERATION X IN PUNJABI

Abbotsford Police have launched the third poster and Punjabi version
of a documentary in its Operation X initiative aimed at informing
youth about the potential risks of street drugs.

This poster will be hung in the halls of Abbotsford secondary schools
and other areas that teenagers frequent, said Const. Ian MacDonald.

The graphic poster depicts the potential tragic outcome of street drug
use by showing foot with a morgue toe tag and the message, "be the
life of the party, not the death".

The release of the latest poster coincides with the release of the
free, Punjabi version of the APD's documentary film Operation X - The
Straight Goods on "E", which depicts the devastation the family and
friends of two Abbotsford youth, Cheryl McCormack and Tyler Miller,
experienced after the pair died after taking ecstasy in 2011.

It's hoped the two versions of the film, dedicated to the friends and
families of the overdose victims, will continue to serve as an
important reminder to youth.

The department has timed the release of the poster and the adapted
film to coincide with spring break and as the graduation season gets
underway, said MacDonald.

"At this time of year, we know that young people are making choices,
and we're not going to be in the room and likely neither are their
parents, so we want them to have all the information to make good
choices," he said.
