COMPARING POT USE TO OTHER SUBSTANCES

Re: "Though marijuana is legal, it's still harmful," April 9 letter
to the editor.

It is true that marijuana is harmful, as letter-writer Barbara Allen
points out. However, as someone in the medical field who has worked
with clients who abuse every kind of drug there is - from alcohol to
methamphetamines to legal prescription medication- I would much
rather take care of someone who has smoked or ingested marijuana. I
can't say that I have ever had to fight with a combative individual
or worry that someone will go into a seizure and die when they have
been smoking marijuana. It is a choice by an individual to experiment
with any substance. Let's educate people and hope that they make right choices.
