SELF SOVEREIGNTY

Re: "Get smart about pot," Letter, May 1.

Wayne Phillips, I'm sorry for your loss. I, too, have known many who
have succumbed to addiction.

However, your opinion about marijuana as a gateway drug is entirely
Illogical. It is akin to saying that drinking juice is a gateway to
alcohol, or that driving slowly is a precursor to driving erratically.
Politicians have no right to tell me, as a sovereign individual, what
I can and can't consume.

I am quite rational and capable of determining on my own what is safe
and what isn't.

Prohibition didn't stop the deaths of your loved ones, nor mine. What
it did was put thousands of productive citizens, and family members
alike, in prison merely for making a choice that would only affect
themselves and those who consent to it.
