FOLLOW 100-MILE RULE ON MEDICAL MARIJUANA

Re: "New rules leave medical-pot users fuming," June 11.

Jack Knox's column informs us that by next March, Ottawa will allow
only a few growers to produce medical marijuana.

The word on the street is that the marijuana currently produced by
our one sanctioned grower in Manitoba is poor when compared to the
local medicine. What would motivate a small monopoly to produce a
fine product? Probably nothing. Would local patients accept a poor
product? Probably not. They are ill, and they know better.

People in need of this medicine suffer from painful conditions.
Ottawa's law, if followed, would make those conditions harder to
bear. So here we have it: Ottawa's new twist on prohibition-legislated pain.

I say let's follow the 100-mile rule, and leave well enough alone.
