STATES' RIGHTS ON WEED LAWS

Regarding "Holder says U.S. won't sue to undo state marijuana laws"
(Page A6, Friday), the Justice Department took a step in the right
direction by deciding not to sue states for their marijuana laws the
voters approved. For something that is less harmful to your body than
alcohol, it should at least be regulated like alcohol.

Since Colorado and Washington have passed their laws, the sky hasn't
fallen. Yes, issues will arise with people not using it responsibly,
but we can handle that the same way we do with alcohol.

It is time for Texas to get up to speed with marijuana laws so we
don't have people caught up in the meat grinder of the justice system
for using a plant. Marijuana prohibition is like the blue laws; it
does not have a rational basis in today's society. Allow states to
decide for themselves how they want to regulate marijuana.
