BARRY COUNTY CONNECTIONS COALITION TO HOST TOWN HALL

The Barry County Connections Coalition will host a town hall meeting,
Think Again, this month in Monett.

The Wednesday, April 30 discussion will center around facts and myths
about underage alcohol and drug abuse. The event will feature food,
prizes and games, including an impaired driving simulator.

Guest speaker Chuck Daugherty, executive director of ACT Missouri, has
more than 30 years of experience in prevention, intervention,
treatment and recovery support to at-risk youth, adolescents and
special needs populations in community-based and clinical settings. He
is a national trainer for the National Alliance for Drug Endangered
Children, and is chairman for the Missouri Alliance for Drug
Endangered Children.

Prior to working with ACT Missouri, Daugherty worked at the Southwest
Prevention Center/Southwest Center for the Application of Prevention
Technology. He was responsible for delivering training and technical
assistance to Missouri prevention providers throughout the
southwestern United States.

According to Daugherty, one in five children will abuse prescription
drugs to get high. One in six teenagers are addicted to marijuana and
one in six teenagers have experienced blackouts after binge drinking.

Daugherty will discuss evidence-based substance use intervention and
prevention programs, policies and strategies to implement in substance
abuse prevention.

Daugherty has also presented numerous programs on Internet addiction
and keeping children safe online.

Also attending will be Leesa Ginther, a registered nurse with the
Barry County Health Department, and school resource officer Jay Jastal
of the Monett Police Department.

The event will be held at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, April 30, at the First
United Methodist Church, located at 1600 N. Central Ave. in Monett.

The public is invited to attend and registration is requested by
Monday, April 28, so event coordinators can plan for a light meal. To
register, people may call the Rev. Paul Lanning at 417-235-7444 or
Jastal at 417-235-4241.
