"We're asking anyone inside the city limits of Algood to report -- anonymously -- any drug activity or crime," detective Justin Medlin said. "We can't be everywhere at once, so we need the public's help." Medlin credits Chief Gary Harris for helping him with this initiative. "There is a drug problem here in Algood," Medlin said. "We're wanting the hotline to become community-oriented. The community is our eyes and ears." Oftentimes, one tip can lead to multiple things. "It can make a difference," Medlin said. It can take time as well. "Those who give us tips can remain anonymous," he said. "I am the only one who has access to the tips." In Algood, Medlin said the biggest problem is with prescription drugs, with a few meth cases here and there. And every tip will be taken seriously and investigated. "We also need people to be very specific about what they see," he said. "Give us as much information as possible with as much detail as possible." To leave an anonymous tip, call 537-6830 and hit option 4 or call 537-6830 and hit 3784 (drug) as you hear the message come up. - --- MAP posted-by: Matt
