'PRINCE OF POT' BACK HOME

Wife Says Laws Need to Be Changed

WINDSOR, Ont. - Marc Emery, the so-called "Prince of Pot," was 
greeted with cheers from marijuana activists and a hug and kiss from 
his wife when he arrived in Canada Tuesday after serving 4 1/2 years 
in a Louisiana prison.

Emery, escorted across the border by U.S. marshals, walked out of the 
Windsor customs building a free man at 4:10 p.m.

"Welcome home," the crowd roared. Emery appeared dazed. "I feel 
good," he said. Earlier, a crowd gathered outside Windsor City Hall 
in anticipation of Emery's homecoming.

Pot smoke drifted through the air as Jodie Emery spoke emotionally 
about the imminent return of her husband, who was convicted of 
selling marijuana seeds to the U.S. from his B.C.based business.

"Marijuana prohibition destroys lives, it destroys families and it is 
an injustice," said Jodie, who is seeking the federal Liberal 
nomination in Vancouver East. "We can either change laws through 
violent revolution, which I refuse to be a part of, or peacefully 
through the ballot box."

People young and old shared joints and stories as Jodie encouraged 
supporters to vote for the Liberal party, which has said it supports 
the legalization of marijuana.
