HOW TO RECOGNIZE A POT COOKIE

Re: "Stalemate on pot edibles," Nov. 18 news story.

At a meeting regarding state regulation of marijuana edibles,
Colorado state Rep. Jonathan Singer said, "I [want] to know the
difference between a marijuana cookie and a Chips Ahoy! cookie just
by looking at it."

Let me lend the honorable representative a hand. First, you freely
choose to drive to a medical or recreational dispensary to purchase
the cookie. You enter the dispensary, where your ID is reviewed and
scanned to ensure that it is legitimate. You then enter the area of
the dispensary where the edibles are displayed and pick out your
cookie. The cookie is wrapped and clearly labeled that it is a
marijuana-infused product. You pay for the cookie and leave the
building. It would seem that from this point forward, the handling of
the cookie is your responsibility.

Clearly there is a personal responsibility associated with the
purchase of marijuana-infused edibles, much as there is with the
purchase of alcohol. I'm sure Rep. Singer is unable to tell the
difference between a glass of vodka and a glass of water just by looking at it.
