FEDS ARE WRONG ON MARIJUANA

Re: "Why new White House drug policy chief opposes medical pot,
legalization," March 4 story on The Cannabist blog.

I read your article about the White House drug policy chief opposing
the legalization of marijuana. With all the advances in research on
marijuana, I believe our federal government needs to change its
policies. Most importantly, it needs to change the classification of marijuana.

Marijuana is a Schedule I substance, meaning the federal government
insensibly considers it more harmful than cocaine and
methamphetamine. Amid all the studies and research, it is more than
clear that marijuana is not a major threat to our national security.
Is it dangerous to our minors? I would argue yes. However, while our
national debt continues to pile up, we must stand up as citizens and
demand our tax dollars are spent in order to fight real threats.
