3,355 NAMES ON FILED MARIJUANA PETITIONS

Seek Less Restrictive Growing Rules in Yuba County

Supporters of replacing Yuba County's medical marijuana growing
ordinance with less restrictive regulations have filed petitions
seeking a countywide vote on the issue.

Petitions containing 3,355 names were filed with Yuba County election
officials Wednesday afternoon more than two months before the Jan.
19 deadline.

The Citizens for Solvency group needs 2,485 817 less than were
submitted to be verified as registered county voters to force a
special election.

Angelique Perez, owner of Two Chix Garden Supply in Marysville, filed
the petitions and emphasized the initiative effort is separate from
efforts by Yuba Patients Coalition to promote medical marijuana use.
She said earlier the effort is supported by a group of business owners.

Yuba County election officials have until Dec. 21 to verify that
enough of the signatures are of registered voters to call for an election.

Perez said supporters gathered more than 5,000 signatures, but that
3,355 were submitted following private verification by Discovery
Petition Management Company of Sacramento.

The ordinance approved by Yuba County supervisors being enforced bans
outdoor cultivation in unincorporated areas of the county. It also
limits indoor grows to 12 plants in a qualified accessory structure.

The initiative would allow six to 12 outdoor or indoor plants on less
than an acre containing a residence. It would allow 18 plants on 1 to
5 acres, 36 plants on 5 to 20 acres and 60 plants on 20 or more acres.

It also includes procedures for registration fees to help pay for
enforcement costs.
