DAGGA SPRAYING FIGHT CONTINUES

THE fight to stop police from spraying Eastern Cape dagga plantations
with poisonous glysophate stepped up a gear when lawyers representing
the affected rural communities demanded proof it complied with
environmental legislation.

Port Elizabeth attorney Rick Stone, of Boqwana Burns, yesterday
confirmed a second letter had been sent to police asking for proof
the herbicide was environmentally compliant.

Police spokesman Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi yesterday said the
product - Round-up - was approved for use in South Africa.
