CITY SHOULD ADOPT IRON-FIST APPROACH

Re: "Mayor has helped create lawlessness," letter, May 6.

Victoria Mayor Lisa Helps and council need to focus on the effective
management of our beautiful city by using, I suggest, the five P's:
"Proper planning prevents poor performance."

At times, management requires an iron fist as opposed to a velvet
glove and anticipating worst-case scenarios such as dozens of illegal
pot shops and tent cities. Prevention of these situations might
involve unpopular decisions for a few in the short term, but in the
long run, a safe, law-abiding environment is maintained for the public.

Greater Victoria has more than 1,300 homeless, with the number growing
because of this enabling attitude of politicians at all levels of
government. The will of the people is being ignored, even at the
highest level of authority. This is frightening and discouraging to
the ordinary citizen.
