DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE

Re: How Stoned Is Too Stoned?, May 18.

In light of the tremendous lack of awareness on the impact of
marijuana on the ability to drive safely, the federal government must
commit to a massive public education program before making any
changes to the ease of access to this psychotropic drug. This is not
something that should be left to the pot industry to orchestrate.

The science is clear on the impact of driving under the influence of
marijuana: a naive or casual user of smoked normal marijuana should
wait at least four to six hours before attempting to operate a motor
vehicle. Because of the delayed absorption of THC, users of edible
forms of marijuana should wait at least 12 hours.
