FOUR ARRESTED IN CANNALEAF RAID

The CannaLeaf marijuana dispensary at 448 Water Street was closed on
Wednesday, after a nighttime raid by police on Tuesday.

The raid happened just past 10 p.m. Tuesday, and according to the
police, four people were arrested and charges are pending.

"Seized was a large amount of cannabis products including marihuana
and shatter," a release from the The Combined Forces Special
Enforcement Unit (CFSEU) said. "Also seized were edibles infused with
Tetrahydrocannabinol, commonly referred to as THC, such as brownies,
cookies, gummy bears, sour keys, lollipops, medicated bath fizz, and
oils, along with a vehicle and a large quantity of Canadian currency."

CannaLeaf branded itself as a medical dispensary of marijuana and
related products, but it was selling the drug to anybody who was more
than 19 years old, regardless of whether they had a prescription or
not.

Over the weekend, a Telegram reporter witnessed this first-hand by
going into the shop and making a small purchase. CannaLeaf required
customers to fill out a short form to provide a name, address, phone
number and email, and show photo ID, but no prescription or medical
information was required.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has committed to legalizing marijuana
for recreational purposes, but that has not yet happened.

In the meantime, marijuana dispensaries are illegal, but they have
sprouted up in various cities across the country. In some cases,
police have determined that it is not a priority, and the dispensaries
have been allowed to operate.
