Emery was one of 10 people arrested when police raided the Cannabis Culture shops around town. Emery was released from detention Saturday. After his arraignment, he flew back to Toronto the same day. He is scheduled to appear in court in Montreal on Feb. 15. Although it has been reported he was slapped with three charges - drug trafficking, possession for trafficking, and conspiracy - Emery said he was only charged with two offences. "People are saying I got charged with conspiracy, but my charges don't say that on my paper," he told the Montreal Gazette in a telephone interview from Toronto. Emery is not sure what to make of the conspiracy argument. "Here's the thing about the whole marijuana industry: About 250,000 people in this country produce marijuana, sell it and distribute it. It's one giant, vast conspiracy, really. "I mean, for me to sell pot in the store in Toronto, for example, it probably involves 15 employees, 25 growers, seven to 10 brokers, shippers, deliverers, I mean, everything in the marijuana industry is a conspiracy." Despite Friday's police raid, Emery said the Montreal stores will probably remain in operation. "As far as I know they 're not shut down at all. Yesterday, they were giving a joint out to everyone who came in and (signed) a petition to present to the mayor." Although both Emery and his wife, Jodie Emery, were arrested in Montreal, Marc Emery said he enjoyed his brief experience in the city. "I had a great time. I shook hands and met hundreds of people. I was so impressed." - --- MAP posted-by: Matt
