SAY NO TO MEDICAL MARIJUANA

I am a resident of the County of Strathcona and have been for 37
years. We live on Range Road 213 and have loved the peace and
tranquility that comes with life in a rural area. Sadly, we are now
going to be living with a medical marijuana facility in the
neighbourhood. Our little piece of Heaven is going to change.

The zoning bylaw for facilities such as this should be industrial, not
agricultural, plain and simple. We are going to be faced with an
increase in traffic on our range road, which will result in our tax
dollars paying to either reinforce the road or pay for repairs to the
same.

There will be heavy equipment, tanker trucks, construction personnel
and buses running on this road during the building phase of this grow
op, and it will impact all of the residents along 213. There was a
meeting on Aug. 14 with the mayor and council members, where we all
attempted to make a change to the zoning bylaw, but it was to no avail.

Council has the ability to amend a bylaw according to a video produced
at the meeting on the 14th, and I question why they did not do so at
the meeting. There are many applications submitted to the County of
Strathcona asking for permits to place medical marijuana facilities in
the county, and the way things stand right now, you could have one in
your backyard.

Changes need to be made now to prevent the permit from being approved.
Would you want a greenhouse the size of a super WalMart in your
neighbourhood?

Thank you for allowing me the freedom of speech to express my opinion.
Please contact your council member in your ward and tell them no to
grow ops, unless they are in industrial-zoned areas.

Editor's Note: While an application for the rural medical marijuana
facility has been submitted to Strathcona County, the project has not
yet been approved by the county.
