NEW LIST OF 'DRUG SLANG'

That old New Orleans con of, "I betcha I can tell you where you got
them shoes," just took on a whole different meaning.

According to the Drug Enforcement Administration's just released list
of "Drug Slang Code Words," for 2018, "shoes" is one of 353 terms the
cool kids are using for cannabis these days. (I bet you thought there
would be 420.) So, offering to tell the tourists where they obtained
their footwear could spark a panic.

The DEA says the list "is designed as a ready reference for law
enforcement personnel who are confronted with hundreds of slang terms
and code words used to identify a wide variety of controlled
substances, designer drugs, synthetic compounds, measurements,
locations, weapons, and other miscellaneous terms relevant to the drug
trade."

Stop that giggling.

"Although every effort was made to ensure the accuracy and
completeness of the information presented, due to the dynamics of the
ever-changing drug scene, subsequent additions, deletions, and
corrections are inevitable," the guide continues in a very drug
enforcement agent tone. "Future addendums and updates to this report
will attempt to capture changed terminology to the furthest extent
possible."

The list, however, drew mainly derision on social media, including
Twitter, where some people questioned whether the DEA had been
watching too much "Reefer Madness" and reading 1930s crime novels,
while others wondered if some of the agency's confidential informants
and street sources were just punking them.

The new terms added for cannabis this year include: A-bomb, Alfalfa,
My brother, Elefante Pata, Loud, Zip, Hoja, Pink Panther and Shoes.

The list also includes: Smoochy Woochy Poochy.

If you're looking for an opinion here it's that I think the DEA could
be using its time better.

Time Magazine reported last year (April 20, to be exact) that there
are actually more than 1,200 words for marijuana, but don't tell the
DEA.
