Pubdate: 18 Sep 1997 Source: Reuter SITTARD, Netherlands, Sept 18 (Reuter) One person died and another was injured on Thursday when a helicopter crashed during a failed breakout attempt from De Geerhorst jail in the southern Netherlands, local media reported. A Ministry of Justice spokesman confirmed a helicopter had come down and burned out on open land in the prison grounds. He declined to give more details ahead of a news conference scheduled for 1200 GMT. The Dutch news agency ANP said the pilot died when his helicopter crashed on landing at around 0800 GMT. He was trying to free a Colombian prisoner serving time for drug trafficking. The prisoner reportedly suffered slight injuries.
