RCMP and Vancouver police yesterday responded to allegations made by imprisoned Big Circle Boys gang member Wing Fu Hau. In interviews aired Monday and Tuesday on CBC Television's Broadcast One, Hau said a corrupt undercover drug cop had been selling him heroin for two years. ``Even though Mr. Hau's allegations are convoluted and nonspecific, we are still taking these allegations very seriously,'' RCMP media liaison officer Russ Grabb said. ``We are going to be reviewing and assessing the information and we will take appropriate action. We're working in conjunction with them (the Vancouver police department) on this issue because obviously there's joint interest here.'' Hau, 34, is in the Vancouver Pretrial Centre charged with second degree murder after allegedly running over a fivemonthold baby boy on Victoria Drive Oct. 9. Hau claims that he was being set up for a drug bust on Oct. 10 involving 50 kilograms of heroin and that he went to Vancouver police on Oct. 7 with his charges but was rebuffed. He also said he intentionally killed the baby, Shu Hin Wong, to be arrested. ``What he has had to say is obviously of great interest to us,'' said Vancouver police Const. Anne Drennan. ``At some point we will be seeking a warrant to obtain the tapes from CBC. We will review the tapes in their entirety.'' Drennan said police may recommend that Hau be charged with firstdegree murder. She confirmed that Hau spoke to the Vancouver drug squad two days before the baby was killed. ``He was interviewed by our drug squad member through a Cantonese translator,'' Drennan said. She said Hau was then passed on to the RCMP. Grabb said an officer tried to telephone Hau on Oct. 9 the day he was charged with murder. ``That Cantonesespeaking RCMP officer left a message for Mr. Hau through a lawyer on the ninth of October and Mr. Hau did not return the call,'' Grabb said .
