BONDING LOST

TO THE EDITOR:

Regarding "State Takes Newborn Girl: Mother Tests Positive for Marijuana,
Officers Say" (news story, July 30): The authorities who took this woman's
child may well be the cause of this mother and child never bonding. The
first few hours of life are critical for bonding, not to mention the fact
that the child won't benefit from her mother's milk. The article referred to
the fact that marijuana does not cross the placenta and marijuana has a
2,000-year history of use for labor and delivery. So the only harm done that
I can see was by the authorities!
