Seven people were arrested and arraigned in Third District Court yesterday on various drug charges. Acting on information that a man was coming into town to purchase a large quantity of heroin for distribution on the island, narcotics detectives set up a surveillance at 11 a.m. Thursday of the suspected city supplier. Narcotics Lt. Mel Wotton said detectives observed the supplier as he met with an individual on a bright red Yamaha Raz motor scooter in the parking lot of a South End bar. After the meeting, detectives followed the man on the scooter back to a known drug house -- a house where previous narcotics arrests had been made - -- on Ruth Street. The man on the scooter was followed to County Street at Rivet Street, where he was arrested and found to be in possession of about $1,000 worth of pure heroin. Detectives followed the main suspect from the Ruth Street home back to a Seventh Street address. Detectives then watched the man leaving that home, followed him to another known drug house, in the North End, then followed him back to the Seventh Street address.
