MORE FREEDOM IS LOST

Many thanks to Jim Foreman for his letter,"Smoking hot in Fullerton"[Talk
Show,Aug.12]. I am saddened and outraged to hear of the action of the
Fullerton City Council in denying employment to any person who uses
tobacco,a legal substance.

Throughout the history of this country men and women have sacrificed, fought
and died to maintain "the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our
posterity" established by our founding fathers. It is bad enough that those
prejudiced and intellectually challenged "leaders" in the highest offices of
our country point us-no,force us-toward a "Big Brother" society.

But when one discovers that the "leaders" of a highly regarded city in one's
immediate area are also pushing its citizens down the same road, one gets
the ominous feeling that this insidious disease is about to infect us
all-unless we take pen in hand and do something about it. If this disease
remains unchecked, the employees of Fullerton might awake to find orders
threatening dismissal if they drive their cars to work-or anywhere, for that
matter. To reduce pollution,of course. I grieve at the possibility that all
those who have sacrificed, fought and died for our freedoms ultimately may
have done so in vain.
