WATCH DOG ON THE RIGHT TRACK

Re; 'Amnesty International bites the hand that feeds it,' Catherine Ford,
Calgary Herald, Oct. 6.

I am puzzled by Ford's piece on Amnesty International. Did she really mean
to say that, because American human rights abuses are less egregious than
those of North Korea or Iraq, Amnesty should not oppose them?

Some of the world's most abusive regimes, from Central America to Southeast
Asia, have been consistently supported by the United States government.
Should these, by extension, also receive exemption from criticism? Perhaps
Ford would have Amnesty confine its reports on abuses committed by the
brutes of the world - nations which happen to be enemies of the U.S. This
would no doubt ensure continued U.S.support
