APPEAL FILED IN ECUADOR

QUITO, Ecuador, Jan. 1 (UPI) - A Jacksonville Beach businessman
convicted of laundering drug money this week in Ecuador has filed an
appeal asking that his eight-year prison sentence be annulled.

Fifty-two-year-old Jim Williams, who owns a wholesale fish company,
has been jailed in the Latin American country since September 1996.

He claims he is innocent, but he has also been indicted on money
laundering and cocaine distribution and smuggling charges in the U.S.
