DRUG REHAB PLEDGE

OPPOSITION Leader Rob Borbidge yesterday pledged extra funding under a
future Coalition government for a programme to give magistrates an
option to force bail applicants to undertake drug rehabilitation. Drug
addicts are currently only compelled by courts to undertake
rehabilitation once sentenced. Mr Borbidge said he would establish
trials in Brisbane, the Gold Coast and Cairns in an effort to reduce
the impact of drug crimes.
