"The school wanted to make the message clear that drugs won't be tolerated," Sgt. Jean-Paul Le May of Hull police said hours after 12 officers arrested eight males and one female about 12:30 p.m. yesterday. The drugs involved were hashish and marijuana. Le May said the teens arrested ranged in age from 14 to 18. Their parents were contacted following the arrests and the students were released. Charges of possession of drugs and possession with intent to traffic drugs are pending. Police said the investigation is still ongoing and more students may be arrested. The school's principal, Geraid Legault, doesn't think there are more drugs at his school than any other school, but said administrators wanted to make a point by calling in police. "They have drugs in every school," he said. "A principal who says there are no drugs in their school doesn't want to see the problem." Legault said the teens arrested yesterday were doing well in school, but the role of the school is more than "just to make students pass the grade." - --- MAP posted-by: Derek Rea
