FOR A LEGAL TRADE

To the Editor:

You say ("Judging the Mexican Drug War," editorial, Feb. 15) that "drug
corruption, which makes accomplices out of the very agencies designed to
combat trafficking, has stymied governments worldwide."

I was disappointed that the next sentence did not draw the logical
conclusion: Let's stop "trafficking" by turning it into a well-regulated,
legal trade that might give rise to no more corruption than the trade in
lettuce.
