FAMILY DRUG SUPPORT

The plea by some members of Family Drug Support (Herald, May 11)
should be hard to ignore, even by tbe most outspoken critics of harm
minimisation.

It is easy to understand those whose own grief makes it impossible for
them to contemplate this approach. On the other hand, those parents
supporting dependent children, as described, at least had the hope
that their children would, at worst, not have to rely on crime or
prostitution to support their habit and may stay alive with the hope
of rehabilitation.

Those that support so-called zero tolerance should perhaps first
organise drug-free jails.
