GOOD START FOR NEEDLE EXCHANGE

After a month in operation, the Oak Ridges needles exchange program at 13085
Yonge St. has received about 60 visits from drug users looking for clean
needles.

The program is believed to be the first of its kind in York Region. There
are an estimated 1,100 intravenous drug users in the region, according to
the clinic.

Drug users who share needles run the risk of getting such blood-borne
diseases as AIDS or hepatitis.
