STATE LAB TEST RESULTS NEEDED FOR CHARGES

Ridgefield - No charges have been filed in the drug-related incident that
caused
three teen-age boys to lose consciousness and be taken to the hospital
two weeks ago.

The drug the 16-year-old boys took, that doctors at Danbury Hospital
determined to be GHB, or gamma hydroxybutyrate, has not been
officially identified by state laboratory tests, police said.

GHB, a clear liquid, was suspected of causing more than a dozen
hopitalizations in the state that week.

"Usually, it's about a four-month process," Police Capt. Donald McGran
said of the state lab testing process.

McGran said lab tests have not been rushed because none of the
teen-agers died as a result of ingesting the drug.

When the drug is offically identified police will decide whether to
press charges.

The incident remains under investigation.
