DAVIS' WEASELLY STAND ON MEDICAL POT

Editor -- State Attorney General Lockyer should be praised for his brave
stance supporting commonsense implementation of Proposition 215 (medicinal
marijuana). It's about time our chief cop wants to focus on murderers,
rapists, etc., rather than busting AIDS patients smoking pot. I'm glad I
voted for him in the last election.

Gov. Davis is reportedly going to veto the state ID card plan because it
conflicts with federal law. What happened to the guy who claimed to stand
up for the people of California in the last election? At the least, he
should take our case to the federal government and defend the voters of his
own state. What a sniveling politician if he vetoes this bill. Is he
brown-nosing the big boys in Washington with hopes of moving on up to
national office?

The real issue at stake here is not pot smoking or drug abuse. It is the
insidious erosion and betrayal of public democracy here in the United
States. Even if the Feds or Gray Davis disagree with Prop. 215, they are
obliged to stand by it anyway, because his constituents voted and passed
it. Period.

Not to mention that medicinal marijuana has never been voted on nationally
by the Feds; in fact it has been voted in by seven states already. In fact,
a vote in Washington, D.C., itself approved a marijuana bill, but the
results of the election were suppressed via some arcane federal
jurisdictional law. Yes, election results suppressed in America! If a
foreign government did that the U.S. government would condemn it vehemently
and place sanctions on that country.

What a bunch of hypocrites. It figures that this behavior comes from the
same bunch which sponsored the whole impeachment fiasco, which cost us
taxpayers tens of millions of our hard-earned dollars.

If Gray Davis vetoes this bill he has lost my vote permanently.
